Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in NYC - 10 Common Questions

Will It Hurt?

During the procedure, anesthesia ensures that you're comfortable and feel no pain. For most procedures, you'll actually sleep through the entire operation. After surgery, any pain or discomfort you may experience can usually be controlled through medication and will usually subside within a matter of days.

How Soon Can I Get Back To Work?

It depends greatly on the procedure, but on average, most of our Connecticut and New York plastic surgery patients are back to work within seven to ten days.

Will Everyone Know?

Usually not. Good cosmetic plastic surgery from our NYC specialists enhances your looks naturally and often goes unnoticed. Friends may ask if you've been on vacation, a new diet, or exercise program. But typically, they won't know you've had a procedure unless you tell them.

How Long Will It Last?

Procedures that focus on rejuvenation — such as face lift, forehead lift, laser resurfacing, and eyelid surgery — can last five to ten years. Procedures that reshape or correct an imbalance — such as chin augmentation, liposuction, breast surgery and rhinoplasty in Manhattan — offer permanent benefits that last a lifetime.

Will There Be Scars?

Yes. Will they be noticeable? Probably not. Dr.Erlich make every effort to keep scars as minimal as possible and try to hide them in the natural lines and creases of your skin. For the majority of procedures your scars will fade over time and become barely noticeable.

How Long Does It Take?

Not as long as you would think. Most of our procedures are performed at our accredited New York plastic surgery facility and are performed on an outpatient basis, requiring no overnight stay, and usually take only a few hours. You'll need to come in an hour before surgery to meet with your surgeon and anesthesiologist, and stay under our care a few hours after surgery before you go home. By then you'll be back on your feet, and a friend or relative will escort you home to recover in your own bed.

Is It Expensive?

Not really. The prices have come down over the years, while the quality has gone up. Since almost every procedure can be performed on an out-patient basis (usually at our accredited New York plastic surgery facility), a hospital stay is rarely required. Eliminating the hospital stay reduces the cost dramatically. Prices have become so reasonable that just about anyone can afford cosmetic surgery. In fact, almost half of the people who have plastic surgery make less than $35,000 a year.

Will Insurance Cover It?

Usually not. Since cosmetic plastic surgery in NYC is elective, most insurance plans don't cover it. But there are exceptions, and if your procedure is medically necessary you may be covered. Our office will be happy to contact your insurance company to find out what portion of your expenses may be covered.
