Fruit-Acid Skin Treatment New York

Fruit-Acid Skin TreatmentThe way you feel about yourself and the image you project is often related to how your skin looks and feels. Factors that can affect the appearance of your skin include photodamage (sun damage), acne scarring, dry or dull skin, and age spots.

In recent years, physicians have found that the use of alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) can result in significant improvement in the appearance of your skin.

Glycolic acid is one of the AHAs — a group of natural substances often referred to as "fruit acids" because they are found naturally in various fruits. Many skin problems are associated with excessive build-up of dead skin cells that make the skin thick and dull.

Fruit-acid treatments help to loosen and remove these accumulated dead cells initiating an improvement process in the skin and bringing about a better skin appearance in people who have light age spots or dry, wrinkled, oily, or acne-prone skin.

Our fruit-acid skin treatment is a three-part program. First, for two weeks, patients apply a prescribed glycolic-acid cream as a pre-treatment. Next, our Connecticut and New York patients receive a customized series of glycolic-acid skin peels - gradually increasing in strength until reaching the desired goal. In these skin peels - which take about ten minutes - glycolic acid in various higher concentrations is applied to your face to remove the damaged surface layer of the skin. This "peeling" of the surface layer initiated the responses of deeper skin cell rebuilding and restructuring. The peel process is a stimulus for renewal of the skin and an improved skin appearance. Finally, part three is the use of special glycolic-acid cleansers and creams for long-term maintenance of healthy-appearing skin.

Based on your particular skin needs, your age, skin type and desired results, we will design a specific program for you. Fruit-acid peels can be the key to radiant and healthy skin, and they are ideal for skin maintenance following a facelift.
